The Spencer Gulf Prawn Fishery leads the way in environmentally sustainable fishing practices.
The MSC operates a certification and ecolabel program based on a scientifically robust standard for assessing whether wild-capture fisheries are ecologically sustainable and well-managed
Spencer Gulf is located in South Australia between the Eyre Peninsula on the west and Yorke Peninsula on the east. The Spencer Gulf is a unique inverse estuary, experiencing higher ambient salinity levels than typical ocean waters.
The Spencer Gulf and West Coast Prawn Fisheries operate under a general co-management framework, where industry and government in particular work together to achieve the goals for managing the fisheries.
Since commercial fishing commenced in 1967 the fishery has been proactive in managing the prawn resources, to not only improve production but to also reduce environmental impact.
